My work did great last year, with a record 10% increase in profts. To celebrate this, the CEO herself is coming in to give every employee... a cookie.
Record profits and employees get a cookie. I can't even make this up.
Edit: this really blew up ...my first reddit awards! feels way better than the cookie I ate. I see you cheeky bastards that gave me the wholesome award
A lot of people have been asking about the company name. I don't feel quite comfortable disclosing that information, I will just say it is a fortune 500 company.
Boss goes into work at 5:30AM and leaves at 6PM for a 8-5 job.
My boss goes to work at 5:30AM and leaves at 6PM with the reasoning that he wants to impress upper management. He said if I want to get nice raises and gain respect then I should consider doing the same. He’s done this LITERALLY EVERY DAY FOR 12 YEARS.
Keep in mind we don’t get paid overtime… Last time I tried doing this I stayed 5 hours after work every day for a week, and I got a 50 dollar gift card for amazon saying thank you.
Quit after less than 5 hours.
I recently applied at a gas station a block from my house just to get by on my bills because savings was running out fast. I'm WAY overqualified for a gas station job, so I obviously got the gig. Did my first day and everything was cool. Then they called me at 9am and TOLD me I had to be there by 10:30am when i wasn't scheduled until 4pm.
Interviewed for a 37.5h/week job, but the actual hours were more in the range of 45+
This is for a private pharma company.
Have been trying to switch from hospital medicine to the private sector, but it looks as though unpaid work carries over to the private sector as well.
The job advert says 37.5 hours a week, 800 to 1630 Monday to Friday with unpaid lunch break. No matter what you have going on at work you’re expected to be on site during those hours.
However, at interview, the panel were honest and said it’s often enough they may go into work earlier at 6am and leave at 2am on days where trial participants need dosing.
Also a couple hours on Saturday and Sundays.
Do you get compensated for those extra hours though? Take a guess….
Even if I do get the offer and asking salary I’mma shut them down..
Works both ways
Boss: why are you always leaving right at 5? Employee: that's when you stop paying me. B: you don't have to rush out the door right at 5 just because we're not paying you anymore. E: you don't have to stop paying me right at 5 just because I'm not working anymore.Remember: They always want free labour, they never give free money.
My district manager is mad that I requested a pay raise to the amount I was told I was hired on for. What should I do?
20, F, Oregon and working in sales for a phone service company.
My DM told me in my zoom meeting when I was being hired that my hourly rate would be $14.50. I had been under the assumption for months that this was my hourly wage - since September. Come January, I had a new SM who was asking about minimum wage for a new hire.
I said I was getting $14.50, and my coworker was rather upset as she had to be relocated to the metro area to get this wage. I decided to double check and… nope. I was getting paid $12.50 for my hourly. I was upset and asked my district manager to fix it, which he said he would… and never changed anything.
I finally went to HR and told them my issue. Suddenly my pay was corrected this Wednesday, yay! But my DM was very mad about having to give me a ‘raise’. He told my SM that I betrayed his trust, went behind his back, and said some generally unkind things about me. He also didn’t give my SM a chance to speak, which she wanted to elaborate that he was in the wrong here, but…
What should I do? I need the job until May, but he is genuinely mad at me and it’s beginning to stress me out. Should I tell HR? Should I just ignore it and stay in my lane? Not sure what to do…
Boss wanted me to work 5 minutes before start time
Edit: I work at a grocery store + no clock-in system. They put your hours in and sometimes 'forget' or get it wrong.
He makes inappropriate comments about the way I walk and about my legs and today was the last straw.
There are 'house rules' that you must arrive 5 minutes before start time (illegal). I was at work 5 minutes before and was busy putting away my coat and backpack. I went to sit down and drink tea before my shift started when my boss came and and asked me why I wasn't working. I told him I still had a minute and he said that I have to be working 5 minutes before I start getting paid?? I essentially told him to fuck off and that it was illegal. He sent me home and took away my hours.
I talked to a lawyer and following his advice, I sent an email to the assistant manager asking to be put down as sick (from the stress, I have autism and take medication to help with stress) and that I want to talk to the work doctor to resolve this problem because I refuse to work for a toxic boss (I live in the Netherlands).
I hate that my boss thinks he can make me do unpaid work and be inappropriate! Maybe it's because I work at the grocery store and we all tend to be young (14-25), and he is used to them not being able to stick up for themselves. But no more, fuck unpaid work. Pay me for my time or STFU!
I asked my boss for a raise this morning and was told if I needed more money I just need to work more overtime.
I'm a machinist in a manufacturing facility and after receiving two paltry raises the last two years "due to covid"?!? I decided to ask for more money because the cost of everything is rising faster than my wages are. I was told I "just need to work more overtime". I'm already putting in 55 hours a week and for a man in his fifties, honestly, my body is already not liking the hours I work now. There are jobs within a little further drive of my area but I like it here, get along well with my coworkers and it's close to home. At this point I really don't see any option besides look for another job. We just signed a 40 million dollar contract with the US government for the next six years. I'm pretty sure a couple of bucks an hour isn't going to break this company. Well, they are about to lose me because if it.
The Balls on Amazon
I just found out they are raising Prime by $2 a month, after posting $14 BILLION in profit last year and spending their resources busting unions and letting people die on the warehouse floor. I tried to text chat with customer service about this, and I ended up having the most dystopian conversation with a guy who was not allowed to say anything that wasn't off-script (if it even was a human at all.) He actually tried to tell me that it was due to "rising wages".
The world is burning and nobody cares.
I can personally confirm the labor shortage is a myth
My husband owns a semi truck, and he has a contract for delivering to stores out of a nearby distribution center. It's a lot for him to unload by himself (40,000 pounds) so I made a job post for him on indeed, for somebody to ride along and help unload.
We were honest in the post about the job, and transparent about the wage and hours ($150 per day which is pretty decent for manual labor in our area). Pay every day.
We got a ton of applications. my phone was ringing off the hook. Hired a guy and he shows up on time even though the truck leaves early in the AM. Works hard, nice guy, eager to learn about the business.
this 'labor shortage' is a bunch of bullshit!!
those 'nobody wants to work' signs should say 'nobody wants to pay'
Keep holding out!! don't take low wages!! don't put up with managers who want to own your whole life!!
